Carolyn Aitken Dip. Ir.
Iridologist & Optician | Based in Helensburgh, Scotland
"Hello, I’m Carolyn Aitken. I live in the coastal town of Helensburgh, near Glasgow, Scotland, with my husband and our son. I’ve worked as an optician since my early twenties (certified in Brussels, Belgium in the early 1990s) and became a qualified iridologist in 2019 in the U.K.
As an iridologist, I am trained to analyse the iris of the eye to help identify underlying health patterns and predispositions to health concerns and support clients in addressing a wide range of both chronic and acute conditions. I work remotely with clients from all over the world, but you're also welcome to visit me in person at
The Lomond Clinic: 55-56 West Clyde Street, Helensburgh G84 8AX.
I have been involved in Glaucoma research the last few years and thanks the support of local participants in Helensburgh the research has culminated in a peer reviewed journal. I have written a book about it and is available to buy, you can find it on the website!
I enjoy yoga, running, playing hockey and I love spending quality time with my family after hectic years of hard work in very busy environments.
My strengths:
I speak four European languages fluently and understand a few more. I am convinced languages have opened up my mind and my heart in so many ways! I’ve been able to make friends all over the world, enjoy literature and cultural richness, and develop into a true citizen of the world.”

About Iridology
What is Iridology?
Iridology is a holistic, non-invasive health analysis method that involves studying the colours, patterns, and structures of the iris of the eye. The iris contains thousands of nerve endings connected to the brain and nervous system, reflecting the body’s genetic strengths, inherent weaknesses, and potential areas of imbalance.
Iridology does not diagnose disease. Instead, it offers insight into constitutional tendencies, stress patterns, inflammation and how different body systems may be responding to lifestyle, nutrition, and environmental influences. It is used as a complementary approach to support overall wellbeing and preventative health.
Who Is Iridology For?
Iridology is suitable for people who:
Are interested in a holistic and preventative approach to health
Wish to understand their body’s inherited strengths and vulnerabilities
Experience ongoing or unexplained symptoms and want a broader health perspective
Are managing long-term or chronic conditions alongside conventional care
Want personalised insight to support nutrition, lifestyle, and wellbeing choices
The Benefits of Iridology
Iridology can help:
Identify areas of constitutional weakness or stress before symptoms become more pronounced
Provide a personalised health picture, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach
Support informed decisions around diet, supplementation, and lifestyle changes
Increase awareness of how stress, digestion, inflammation, and vitality may be affecting the body
Encourage a proactive, preventative mindset towards long-term health
Many people find iridology empowering, as it helps them better understand their body and take an active role in supporting their wellbeing.
A Complementary Approach
Iridology works best as part of a complementary and integrative approach to health.
It does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment but can provide valuable insights that support conversations with healthcare practitioners and inform holistic care plans.
At The Lomond Clinic iridology is used alongside other therapies and diagnostic tools. It can be beneficial for all ages and is often used alongside conventional medical care, complementary therapies, and wellness programmes.
